The 2017 AAU National Mite/Squirt Championships (March 24-26) will be held in Michigan.

The league divisions will be been confirmed as of 2/15/16.

Mite - Age Divisions:

- 2009 Minor - 7U Multiple tiers (two levels in playoffs) 
- 2008 Major - 8U Multiple tiers (two levels in playoffs)
- 2008 / 2009 Mixed - 7U-8U multiple tiers (two levels in playoffs)

Squirt - Age Divisions:

- 2006 / 2007 Mixed - 9U-10U multiple tiers (two levels in playoffs)

*NOTE: Where warranted two levels are seeded after pool play based on entries.   

Please Note:
- Each Division is broken into Tier 1 and Tier 2 after Pool Play.
- Seeding will be done by the seeding committee after all entries are completed.

Tournament Details

We intend to host several Mite classifications including 7U (2009 and later), 8U (2008 and later) and 8U-Tier2 (2008-2009 and later) and at Squirts we're seeking 10U-Mixed (2006-2007 and later).

Each classification will have 8 teams (with each having 2 divisions of 4).  Other features include:

  • $1250 entry fee
    • No gate fees, no parking fees, etc.
  • 5 games (all teams)
    • 3 round-robin games on Fri(am & pm)-Sat(am)
    • and then all teams advance to a Semi on Sat(pm)
    • and then all teams play a 5th game within a Final on Sun (within either the Championship Pool or Challenger Pool)
  • 13 minute stop-time periods
  • Tournament Program (each participant, essentially 20 per team).
    • Please understand that the Tournament Program is the primary reason that we must have verbal commitments a completed Questionnaire and set the field earlier than usual.  A good Tournament Program takes some time to prepare, gathering information, team pictures, etc.
  • Championship and Finalist (Team Trophy) within the Championship Pool
  • AAU National Championship Medals (Gold, Silver, Bronze) within the Championship Pool
    • Very likely there will be AAU "Sports For All" medals awarded within the Challenger Pool
  • we are currently planning an All-Star type Skills Competition for each age classification
  • please be aware that this is also a Stay & Play type tournament.  However, our area hotel contracts are not terribly expensive and offer a great value in quality hotels.
    • Rates ranging from $105-120 US ($140-160 CAN)
    • Breakfast included and free wireless
Please be aware that this tournament is available to AAU teams who have competed within NASH leagues such as the:
  1. Chicago United Hockey League (CUHL),
  2. Greater Niagara Amateur Hockey League (GNAHL),
  3. Michigan Amateur Youth Hockey League (MAYHL),
  4. Minnesota Made - Choice Hockey League,
  5. National Independent Hockey Federation (NIHF),
  6. New England Amateur Hockey League (NEAHL),
  7. Ontario Rep Hockey League (ORHL).
FYI, no all-star teams permitted.  All participants must have played on their regular-season league team.
